ADIRONDACK ABSTRACT

This unique quilt was exhibited at QuiltCon2023 in the Community Outreach Category!

Adirondack Abstract was inspired by the High Peaks of the Adirondacks and the beautiful lakes and rivers in Upstate New York.  The pattern and quilting were designed and drafted by our members specifically for the QuiltCon 2023 "Colorshift" Community Outreach Challenge.  The quilt top was assembled during a fun guild sewing day using traditional piecing methods.  Each participating member received the fabric and instructions to sew one geometric area of the pattern.  (There were 24 individual areas.)  Then all of the areas were stitched together, like joining pieces of a puzzle!  The finished top was quilted by one of our members using a walking foot on a domestic sewing machine.  We are very pleased with the teamwork that went into creating this piece, and we are proud of the way it represents the landscape of our region.

SYMMETRY

Using the construction method of a ‘string quilt’, SYMMETRY was made for QuiltCon 2024’s Community Outreach Challenge.  CDMQG members made each unique square or rectangular block using pre-cut strips within the color palette.  The overall effect is both symmetrical and three-dimensional!  

Our SYMMETRY quilt will be displayed at Empire QuiltFest (April 27-28, 2024 at Fulton Montgomery Community College), and will be for sale at the Capital District Modern Quilt Guild table for $300.

This quilt was designed and made by members of CDMQG and was raffled on October 11, 2022 to benefit a local Ukrainian relief effort.
